What is Open Data… And why is it important?

Tuesday 25th September 2018

SASSOT would like to encourage all providers of sport and physical activity opportunities to consider opening their data.  We know that this initially sounds daunting and maybe a little confusing but there is some fantastic advice and bite sized learning available.

Open-Active are the key organisation drive driving and supporting organisations to ‘open their data’. Open Active is a community-led initiative with the ambition to help people in England get active using open data. The initiative is stewarded by the Open Data Institute (ODI), supported by Sport England, and formed by organisations and engaged individuals working within the sport and physical activity sector.

From leisure operators and local sports clubs, to National Governing Bodies and event providers, we work with organisations to open up data about physical activity opportunities for anyone to access, use, and share (OpenActive)

Take time to watch the 3 minute video below as it will help to answer some of the key questions you may have.

OpenActive have also created an online open data course that includes a set of practical modules covering what open data is, its business benefits, how it can be published and prioritised to help you grow. Click here to start your open data learning journey!
