Active People Survey 9 Results

Sport England’s Active People Survey data for 2014/15 was released on the 9th December and shows that 15.74 million adults now play sport at least once a week. That’s 1.65 million more than in 2005/6 however most adults (57%) still do not play sport.  The latest Active People Survey results do however reveal that more women are getting active, but there’s more to be done for disabled people and those on lower incomes.

Less than a year into the This Girl Can behaviour change campaign, the number of women playing sport and getting active once a week, every week, has increased by 148,700.

Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent have witnessed an increase of 2.1% with 32.8% of people taking part in 1 x 30 minutes sport a week.  For the full county results and individual district results visit the Sport England website and download the documents at the bottom of the page.

Christmas Ability Family Fun Day

Adam Binns – Christmas Ability Fun Day Winner

Our successful Christmas Ability Fun Day that invited young disabled children and their family and friends to take part in fun activities took place at Penkridge Leisure Centre on Sun 6th December. It was a fun filled day with lots to do. Lisa Tiso, our regular face painter, kindly came along and painted the team and children’s faces building on the Christmas spirit. Clive Gibson our Athletics coach brought enthusiasm and passion, bringing the children together to play team games and encouraging them to go ahead and shoot some arrows in soft archery. The day did not stop there because during the second hour the children took part in a fun swimming session where they could enjoy and relax themselves.

The Christmas spirit continued where one lucky winner had the opportunity to win a £20 gift voucher. After an hours swim, Adam Binns was announced the winner and briefly speaking to him he thoroughly enjoyed swimming and taking part in the activities in the sports hall. It was the first time he had attended the session and it was great to hear that he had an enjoyable time.
