Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) have successfully been awarded activation funding to deliver This Girl Can sessions, as part of our Move More in May campaign.
This Girl Can is Sport England’s nationwide campaign to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability. This Girl Can is all about getting women active – swapping fear of judgement with a celebration of cellulite, sweat and jiggly flesh. No Photo-shopping. No lighting tricks. Just the joyous, unfettered reality of women enjoying exercise. The campaign aims to help women overcome the fear of judgement that is stopping too many women and girls from joining in. Launched in 2015, phase two of the campaign is underway now, with the aim of changing the way sport and physical activity is delivered and promoted to women. More information on the campaign, to join the ‘Supporters’ hub and gain access to resources ie, posters etc can be found at www.thisgirlcan.co.uk.
Move More in May
For the past two years, SASSOT has run an annual campaign, Move More in May (MMiM), to encourage inactive people to try something new. The campaign aims to allay peoples’ natural fears about trying a new sport by focusing on activities targeting beginners and by promoting the message that these activities are fun, easy to do and will improve your sense of wellbeing. We trialled the campaign in 2015 on a small scale and scaled it up during 2016. Given its success, we are now running it on an annual basis with the aim of increasing the impact year on year.
